Stewart McIntosh has won 16 UK press awards for his journalism, believed to be a record for any Scottish writer. Here's what impressed the judges about his copy: Presenting him with Commercial Property Writer of the year award in 1999, Roy Farndon, Enterprise Editor of the Daily Express, said: "Stewart is a fluent and highly versatile writer with a sureness of touch across a wide range of subject areas. His excellent articles demonstrate an extensive repertoire of styles to match the mood and diversity of those subjects, from hard news style to the philosophical and wonderful tongue-in-cheek, taking in revelatory profiles on the way. "His articles ranged from how Scotland's devolution 'earthquake' was shaping the nation's property sectors; the impact of the new Buchanan Galleries shopping centre in Glasgow, to the search for an island home by the 'Icelandic Pixie' pop-singer Bjork; and the headaches of working from home." In 1997 Stewart scooped the pool in the UK residential property journalism awards, winning three of the categories outright and being highly commended in a fourth. As a result he became the first Scottish journalist to win the 'UK Residential Writer of the Year' title. In the 15 year history of the awards he is the only journalist to have won more than two categories in any one year. He has consistently beaten off the challenges from some of the world's most famous newspapers including The Financial Times, The Times, the London Evening Standard, the Telegraph and the Daily Mail. The 1997 judges, comprising eminent property practitioners and journalists, said: "Stewart McIntosh brings an interesting perspective to his writing. He also brings to bear, where appropriate, that most values commodity - humour. His text is fluent and accurate, words are never out of place. He is a pleasure to read." | |
